In the ever-expanding world of premium cigars, there’s no shortage of voices sharing stories, reviews, and industry insights. But few bring the same energy, humor, and authenticity as the Leaf Cutters Podcast. Whether they’re diving into cigar culture, trading personal stories, or sparking lively debates, the hosts cut straight to the heart of what makes this community so special. Each member brings a unique perspective and personality to the mic, creating a dynamic blend that resonates with both seasoned smokers and curious newcomers.

So here is the background. I was at the PCA opening party when this seemingly shy man approached me and asked if I was Jean from Cigar World. I was excited that someone actually knew who I was! I started to speak with him and discovered that he was a member of the Leaf Cutters Podcast. (I apologize as I do not remember exactly who it was… I am terrible at that sort of thing!) I was able to spend a decent amount of time chatting with the whole group at the opening party, and they were a blast! Throughout the rest of PCA, I continued to run into them, so we just got to know each other better.

I was lucky enough to participate in an episode of the Leaf Cutters Podcast recently. The crew was as I expected; funny, smart, and chock full of questions. You will have to tune into their podcast to hear those questions, but I took it upon myself to ask some of my own for this article.

Join me in getting to know each member of the Leaf Cutters Podcast, and hold tight because there are SIX of them!

Meet Gibs

Gibs

While he hasn’t been smoking cigars as long as Andy, Gibs has fully embraced the ritual of finding the perfect stick. He’s not one to name a single favorite—there are too many—but give him a smooth medium-to-full-bodied cigar and he’s happy. His favorite moments to light up are in the fall around a fire at night, during the podcast, or just kicking back with friends.

Pairings are part of the experience, and for Gibs that means coffee in the morning, Dr. Pepper in the afternoon, or bourbon when it’s time to wind down. His soundtrack covers a wide spectrum: Sinatra’s cool, Metallica’s grit, the anthems of 80’s rock, and the nostalgia of 90’s alternative.

For Gibs, the best part of the podcast is simple: sharing smokes and laughs with friends while getting to meet amazing people in the cigar industry. He keeps things running behind the scenes (and often in front of the mic) as host, producer, media manager, and resident cat wrangler.

As for how it all started—Gibs and Andy always joked that their conversations were funny enough to be a podcast. Once the idea took shape, cigars naturally became the centerpiece, and from there, everything just fell into place.

Next up, meet Andy

Andy

Andy—known online as CigarAndy—has been part of the cigar world since the late 1990s. What began at a party in 1997 quickly turned into a lifelong passion for the culture, craft, and camaraderie surrounding cigars. With a preference for smooth, medium-to-full-bodied sticks, Andy often reaches for brands like RoMa Craft, Illusione, Punch, Romeo y Julieta, and West Tampa Tobacco. A true all-day smoker, he enjoys pairing his cigars with Dr. Pepper or sweet tea during the workday, and bourbon, whiskey, or even small-batch moonshine on the weekends. Music and mood play their part too—his humidor sessions might be soundtracked by classical symphonies, swing, jazz, 90s alternative, or even a good audiobook.

As a founding member of The Leaf Cutters Podcast, Andy was there from “Day 0,” when a casual conversation with his friend Gibs sparked the idea of building a show around cigars. Today, he serves as the group’s resident Cigar Expert,” drawing on decades of experience and a keen eye for industry news, press releases, and trends from organizations like PCA and CRA. Beyond lending his voice to the show, he also supports Gibs with the podcast’s social media presence.

For Andy, the best part of the Leaf Cutters journey is simple: spending time with friends, sharing cigars, good drinks, and great conversations. Whether the guest is a brand leader like Mo Maali of Patina Cigars, Mike Rosales of RoMa Craft, or even Dr. Desiree Sylver talking about her chickens, Andy brings knowledge, curiosity, and a laid-back love of the leaf to every episode—keeping the vibe true to its roots on the back porch.

And Meet Billy

Billy

Profiler Apprentice | Cigar Enthusiast | Podcast Troublemaker

Billy’s been deep into the cigar game for about five years and still refuses to pick a single favorite. A few top contenders? The Knuckle Sandwich Connecticut, RoMaCraft CroMagnon, and anything Diesel. You’ll usually catch him lighting up during podcast recordings or while hanging with friends, pairing his smokes with a trusty Coke Zero or a pour of good bourbon—lately, Buffalo Trace Kosher Wheated has been his go-to.

When the smoke’s rolling, the playlist is blasting bands like Amon Amarth, Tyr, Gunship, Dance With The Dead, Pantera, and Slayer. Billy’s favorite part of the podcast? Getting to hang with friends, swap stories, and meet some seriously interesting folks in the industry. Officially, he’s the “profiler apprentice”… or so they tell him.

He joined the podcast a little later than the rest of the crew—his words, not ours: “because I’m an asshole.”

Onto our next member, Meet Grim

Grimm

Grimm has been enjoying fine smokes for over 16 years, and while his palate shifts from time to time, he always finds himself circling back to his reliable favorite—the Diesel Whiskey Row. His best smoking moments usually come after dinner, on the mic during podcast recordings, or while jotting down ideas with a cigar in hand.

When it comes to pairings, Grimm keeps it versatile: Dr Pepper Zero Sugar for a refreshing balance, or a pour of Bulleit bourbon when it’s time to lean into the flavor experience. Music is always part of the ritual, with a rotation that ranges from Codeseven’s Dancing Echoes/Dead Sounds, He Is Legend’s Heavy Fruit, and Deftones’ White Pony, to the raw energy of Wu-Tang Clan and the off-beat spirit of AJJ.

On the podcast, Grimm insists he’s “the best part” (and don’t bother arguing with him). Officially, he’s billed as the talent—though he admits the joke’s on everyone else, since he claims he’s “not talented.” His involvement? Let’s just say when Gibs pitched the idea, Grimm didn’t have a better plan, so he agreed—but only if he got to be the star.

And we are not done yet, Meet Robert

Robert

Robert has been around cigars since 2013, but it wasn’t until 2022 that he really dove in as a serious smoker. These days, his go-to is the Espinosa Knuckle Sandwich Maduro, a stick he keeps coming back to. His favorite time to light up—outside of recording—is at twilight, when the day slows down and the smoke lingers a little longer.

When it comes to pairing, Robert is loyal: it’s Diet Dr Pepper all the way. His music tastes are just as wide-ranging as his cigar curiosity—after managing a music store, his playlist spans just about everything, though lately he’s been spinning Morgan Wallen the most.

What Robert loves most about the podcast is simple: the chance to hang out with the crew, share smokes, and learn more about the cigar world along the way. On the show, he’s known as “The Inquisitor”—the one asking questions that not only feed his own curiosity but also help listeners and viewers who might be just as new to cigars as he once was.

Last but certainly not least, Meet Zack

Zack

Zack has been enjoying cigars for around a decade, and over that time he’s developed a real appreciation for both the leaf and the company that comes with it. His go-to brands include RoMa Craft, Patina, Silent Hero, Gran Habano, West Tampa Tobacco, Crowned Heads, Goss, and Diesel. While he’ll smoke just about any time, his favorite moments are after a good meal—especially when shared with good company or during a Leaf Cutters get-together.

For pairings, Zack leans toward bourbon, scotch, or a cold Coors Light in the evening, but nothing beats a great cup of coffee alongside a great cigar. He’ll tell you that combination is pure magic. His soundtrack of choice varies—sometimes it’s Tool, The White Stripes, or The Black Keys, but more often it’s the simple sound of birds and frogs when he’s outside enjoying a stick.

On The Leaf Cutters Podcast, Zack has earned the nickname “The Cigar Profiler,” a nod to his attempts to pull tasting notes from cigars using some of the skills he picked up from wine and whiskey. He admits he doesn’t always nail the flavors, but it’s all part of the fun. For him, the best part of the podcast will always be getting together with the crew—something he’d still do regularly even if the mics weren’t on.

Whew! If you are still reading, thank you! You made it through all six of the Leaf Cutters Podcast members. Now you need to follow them on the socials, tune in to one of their podcasts, and enjoy the show! Of course, we will keep you posted so you know when Cigar World will be on the podcast! Also, how cool are the photos they sent in for their bios?!
