Cigar Reviewed: MUWAT Kentucky Fire Cured

Smoked at: Carolinas

The Kentucky Fire Cured Swamp Thang Robusto is a 5 x 54 cigar that is truly unique. It has a green Candela wrapper that covers about two thirds of the stick, and a rich dark brown Madura wrapper covering the rest. It sports an attractive and rustic looking band and is smooth and well packed. As soon as you remove this from the cello, you smell the wood smoke. You can see the darker color of the Kentucky tobacco rolled into the very center of the cigar. The cold draw is full of hickory smoked flavor. If you like campfires, smoked meats, or jerky, you'll find this cigar appealing. The draw is perfect. On light up, the cigar delivers bold smokey, woody flavors. There is a bit of spice and cream but no real pepper to speak of. The smoke is full flavored, but not overwhelming or biting. The Candela wrapper adds a special note that is hard to describe, but once you've had it, you know it. It blends perfectly. The ash is long and more gray than white. Once you've smoked down beyond the candela wrapper, the flavor profile changes. As the Candela fades, out comes the spice, coffee, pepper and molasses. It's just a marvelous ending to a wonderful smoke. I think the way to appreciate this cigar is to not try and compare it to your favorite Montecristos, Arturo Fuentes, Ashtons, Glorias, or Padrons. Just think of this as an entirely different kind of smoke, in a category all its own. A Swamp Thang.
