Cigar Reviewed: Macanudo Emissary España

Smoked at: SE Portland Oregon

An elegant, sophisticated appearance with a dark navy, and gold band with a blue green and gold foot lable. The cigar is made from blend of five countries with Spainish Havana being highlighted. More can be learned at the Macanudo website.

After smoking I visited the website and their discription and pairing notes were spot on.

Here are a few things I noticed: First, my cigar was very firm, with a very small soft spot near the band, hardley worth mentioning, and double or tripple cap couldn't quite tell. The cold draw had a slightly nuttly flavor. I started off pairing this cigar with a salted caramel coffee and was a bit worried it might influnce what I tasted in the cigar... It was a perfect combo.

1st third: Right out of the gate the flavors are very clear and pronounced. Toasted Credar and Almonds giving way to carmel and lingering finish that seemed to me like crusty bread.

2nd third: ( Razor sharp burn, for me the ash consistently fell at about the 1 inch mark)

Ceader is still the pronounced as is the aldmonds with a lighter caramel bringing up the back, mixed with subtle white pepper spice. At this point I switched to a glass of Dalwhinnie 15 year Scotch.

Last third: Predominantly cedar, and I think the switch to scotch may have altered my flavors, but I experienced a menthol/minty taste and finish which was a pleaseant suprise. I will smoke another without the scotch and see if I have the same experience.

Over all this was a great afternoon with a delicious, refined, well made cigar. Burned perfect and had zero touch ups. I dont have my smoking times but it was on the longer side for a 5/52 cigar.
