Smoked: Caldwell Lost & Found Scooby Snax

Smoked at: West Chester, Ohio

Caldwell Lost & Found Scooby Snax is another Dominican batch supposedly “found” in a tobacco flea market by Indiana Caldwell. This was a tough Lost & Found for me to fine. After a year-plus long search, I secure a few. Scooby Snax is definitely full body and at least close to full strength cigar cloaked in what I assume is a Habano maduro wrapper.

The Scooby is a medium-full bodied, medium-full strength cigar with a dark brown toothy maduro wrapper with thick veins, trying to be a one stripe barber pole – unusual. The 5-pack I was able to procure were gordos or suoer toro – not my favorite vitola. But I’ve been hunting for Scoobys for some time so I grabbed them when I saw them.

There is a little light sweetness on the head of the cigar, a bit like Baccarat but very subtle. It dissipates after a few puffs. Now here comes pepper, spice, cream, earth, leather, creaminess, chocolate (more like milk chocolate or cocoa) with some nut and wood notes that are much more prevalent on the retrohale. That well-aged tobacco flavor is ever present – a trademark of Caldwell LNFs. Coffee kicks in during the 2nd 3rd and continues to build in tandem with the other flavor notes through the finish. There is complexity and balance to this blend – supposedly unkown – although I suspect Caldwell knows but just keeps it a mystery to add to the mystique of LNFs. That’s fine. It’s his prerogative (with permission from Bobby Brown).
