Cigar Reviewed: Macanudo Inspirado Red

Smoked at: Lenexa, KS, USA

When I want to enjoy a cigar and a good drink I want a cigar that will stand up to whatever quaff I happen to have in the glass. Padron, Bolivar, and a few others fill the bill but I generally do not think of Macanudo in this role. Let's talk about the Inspirado Red (IR), Macanudo's attempt to move into a more robust flavor profile. The IR is a good cigar. It is well made and delivers a long ash and a razor-straight burn. The flavor is good, even 'robust' by Macanudo standards. I am not good at picking out individual flavors and nuances, so you won't hear me saying that I can taste 'Madagascar Vanilla that was harvested from tree #900 on a Thursday..,' For me it is simply did I like it or not? Was it strong enough or not? Is it a good value or not? Would I buy it again or not? Pretty simple, right? With that said, I did like this cigar. I did not love this cigar. It was barely strong enough. It is a great value at it's current price point. I might buy it again, or I might not.

I won't dissuade anyone from trying the Macanudo Inspirado Red. They are trying a lot of new blends and lines. If Macanudo wishes to evolve and grow, then that is a good thing. More power to them. The IR may be plenty strong enough for some palettes. If so, then you have found a good cigar that is an excellent value. For some, the IR may leave them wanting. I would say that a road test of the Macanudo Inspirado Red is an easy ride that is not too hard on the wallet or on the taste buds. Check it out.
