Smoked: Southern Draw Quick Draw

Southern Draw Quick Draw corona gorde measures out to a petite corona sporting a dark brown Pennsylvania Broadleaf wrapper…and a pigtail – nice touch. Pigtails usually make me nervous. Without gentle patience they can sometimes tear the wrapper at the cap. This one came off perfectly. Whew! The binder and filler are Nicaraguan.

The opening salvo features heavy wood, pepper, mild chocolate and coffee flavors with a spicy sweetness. With PA Broadleaf I’m expecting some metallic, steely notes and there is a slight steely nuance. There are some vegetal notes during the final third. The wood changes to a mix of oak and cedar.

The construction was fine – nice cold draw, fairly even burn line with a reasonable smoke output and light grey ash, which was a bit flaky and fell off several times.

The flavors were OK – a little bitter as the cigar passed the halfway mark. The stick was a fast burner. Southern Draw Quick Draw is a good cigar, but nothing special. Maybe it needs some more time in the humidor to reduce the bitterness and bring out additional flavors. I might try it again.
