Partagas Releases First Ever Barber Pole, Añejo

Partagas has a new offering for fans of both aged cigars and barber poles. Their newest release, called Añejo, is slated to ship to retailers on March 1, 2022. Not only is this cigar the first Partagas to feature a barber-pole style wrapper, but it also contains some of the longest-aged tobaccos the brand has ever employed. Appropriately, “Añejo” means “old” or “vintage” in Spanish.

Partagas Añejo blend Information

The most eye-catching aspect of Partagas Añejo is also its biggest selling point. The cigar features two wrapper leaves in a classic barber-pole pattern. The first –– a Brazilian-grown Cameroon –– is a rich, dark leaf that has been aged since 1998. The other is a smooth 2013 vintage Connecticut shade. (That’s a combined 33 years of aging on the wrapper leaves.) Underneath both wrappers are Mexican and Dominican fillers and a Dominican Vega Especial binder. Añejo offers a mild-to-medium body smoking experience, which becomes stronger as the cigar progresses. Tasting notes include wood, earth, and leather.

Matt Wilson, senior brand manager for Partagas said, “With Partagas Añejo, we have taken the brand’s long-term association with aged Cameroon wrappers to a new level. Not only have we created the first Partagas cigar to have a barber pole wrapper, but we’ve also done so with tobaccos that are among the most aged we’ve ever used. Añejo will become a seasonal offering for Partagas, one that will give us the opportunity to highlight the intricacies and nuances of a deeply-aged Cameroon wrapper.”

Partagas Añejo is handcrafted at General Cigar Dominicana.

Partagas Añejo pricing & availability

Partagas Añejo will be available in two vitolas –– a petit Robusto (parejo, 4.5” X 49) and an Esplendido (4.5” X 60). SRP for the Robusto is $6.99 per cigar, while the Esplendido’s SRP sits at $7.49. Añejo is being released with somewhat smaller vitolas to accommodate the size of the Cameroon leaf used for the wrapper. Both vitolas can be purchased in a box of 25, which features a classic wood-paneled design. Añejo is a semi-limited release, and is scheduled to become a seasonal offering for Partagas. It will begin shipping to retailers on March 1.
