Boneshake Mace features a Nicaraguan binder and filler and covered in an oily Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. The skull & bones black and white logo and band says it all. It’s a short, stocky 4 ½ x 60 petit gordo or a fat corona extra – pick an odd vitola name.

Flavors open with oak, earth, dark roast coffee, even darker chocolate – maybe a tad bittersweet chocolate, spice – mostly tingly pepper, and a hint of licorice. There’s also a mineral note – chalk, slate – and a couple of puffs of mintiness. This stick packs a wallop – full bodied and full strength. To call this cigar bold is an understatement. There is a warning on the band: “Strongly handmade.”

Open draw, reasonably solid clouds of smoke, the white grey ash was flaky but never dropped, tapped off on command, and the burn line was even throughout.

Boneshaker Mace was an enjoyable smoke, although just a bit too strong for my personal taste. And yet, I smoked it to the nub so I may be a shade too critical. I would like to smoke another Boneshaker in a different vitola.
