## Gran Habano George Rico American Puro

Gran Habano George Rico American Puro is crafted from a combination of American tobacco using Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Kentucky filler, a Connecticut binder, and a caramel tan Connecticut Habano wrapper with some noticeable veins. The primary band is gold on white with a red crest logo and a gold border. The secondary band is white with the name “American Puro” in gold with a gold border.

Oak & hickory, earthy leather, spice – noticeable nutmeg, and a dab of creamy sweetnesss. Pepper emerges during the second third. It’s medium-bodied and medium strength all the way. The cigar is fairly balanced with minimal complexity.

Tight draw that required the Perfect Draw and yet still stubbornly resisted. The smoke output was light, slight tear in the wrapper at the foot, which was a tad shaggy. The ash was flaky and did not adhere to even a half inch before falling off. I’m not pleased with the construction.

Still…leave it to Gran Habano to use unusual tobacco blends. The Kentucky fire-cured inclusion in the filler brought a unique taste – as little as I could detect due to the tight draw and minimal smoke. I’m not really sure if it added or subtracted from the flavor. It was just a bid off, rather odd. Ironically, I kind of like Drew Estate’s Kentucky Fire Cured cigars. Somehow the smokey notes of the Kentucky tobacco combined with the Pennyslvania and Connecticut tobacco don’t quite play well together.

That said, George Rico American Blend uses an nteresting tobacco blend, but it’s an OK cigar experience at best. If only the construction issues had not impeded the experience. I give it a reluctant 3 on the Cigar World scale.
